Onion (Allium cepa L.) Bulb Crop Production Using Sets of Two Sudanese Cultivars

نویسندگان

چکیده

The objective of this research was to determine production requirement for onion bulb crop using sets as, rarely but high potential, planting material. An experiment carried out at the Demonstration Farm Faculty Agriculture, University Khartoum two consecutive growing seasons,(2010/11 and 2011/12). Treatments comprised cultivars(Saggai Kamlin), three set sizes (small 1-1.5 cm diameter; medium 1.6- 2.1 large 2.2-2.7 cm) dates (15th August, September October). were arranged in a split plot design with replications, where cultivars randomized main plots, sub-plots sub-sub plots. Resultsindicated that increasing size from small significantly promoted plant growth. Medium resulted higher average weight, total marketable yields than sets; however, splitting premature bolting (negative quality traits) also high. So yield represented range 40-46 %, 39-49 % and25-53 over years when medium, used respectively. Plant growth, diameter, planted inOctober August; yet, higher. Early August increased dry matter. Saggai cultivar had tendency Kamlin as Total October August. It is concluded use material good transplants, if not better, it more easy adaptable continuously changing environment terms climate change cost.

Screening of Local and Exotic Onion (allium Cepa L.) Cultivars for Seed Production Potentiality

Onion (Allium cepa L., 2n=16) is a cross-pollinated and biennial short type vegetable and most of the important spice as well as vegetable crops throughout the world. Bulb is the main edible portion of onion plant, which is a modified organ and constituted by the thickened fleshy leaf sheaths and stem plate (Purseglove, 1988). The leading onion producing countries of the world are China, India,...

Transcriptome Analysis of Sucrose Metabolism during Bulb Swelling and Development in Onion (Allium cepa L.)

Allium cepa L. is a widely cultivated and economically significant vegetable crop worldwide, with beneficial dietary and health-related properties, but its sucrose metabolism is still poorly understood. To analyze sucrose metabolism during bulb swelling, and the development of sweet taste in onion, a global transcriptome profile of onion bulbs was undertaken at three different developmental sta...

Identification of a glutathione S-transferase inhibitor in onion bulb (Allium cepa L.)

A glutathione S-transferase (GST, EC 2.5.1.18) inhibitor was isolated from the onion bulb by fractionation and purification using Sep-pak Vac C18 column, TLC and HPLC. Five partially purified onion bulb GSTs (GSTa and GSTb as minor GSTs, and GSTc, GSTd and GSTe as dominant GSTs) separated by DEAE column were used to detect the inhibitory substance in onion bulb extract. Among the three fraction...

De Novo Transcriptome Analysis of Allium cepa L. (Onion) Bulb to Identify Allergens and Epitopes

Allium cepa (onion) is a diploid plant with one of the largest nuclear genomes among all diploids. Onion is an example of an under-researched crop which has a complex heterozygous genome. There are no allergenic proteins and genomic data available for onions. This study was conducted to establish a transcriptome catalogue of onion bulb that will enable us to study onion related genes involved i...
